These Year-Round Activities at The Ford Are Fun for the Entire Family

Published on

As the seasons change, members of The Ford have a world of year-round adventures at their beck and call. The soaring, centuries-old oaks, marsh grass and many species of wildlife majestically span across the 1,800 acres of our community, an enduring delight to witness from the indoors or outdoors at any time of year. From winter to spring and summer to fall, our members of all ages seize the day and relish the splendor of the land at our one-of-a-kind coastal Lowcountry community.

Take a look at some of our members’ favorite recreational activities, enjoyed year-round:

Fishing Right Off the Dock

The catch of the day awaits! The excitement of catching a fish continues to thrill members of all ages. Families at The Ford spend leisurely afternoons casting a line or a net off the dock at the Deepwater Marina, Lake Clara or along the Ogeechee River. Teeming with bass, trout, snapper, blue crab and shrimp, The Ford’s waterways and lakes showcase some of the finest marine and freshwater habitats in the Lowcountry, experienced from the shore or by boat. Members can arrange expert-led excursions from the Deepwater Marina, an exciting activity for young children any time of year. What will you catch along the Ogeechee River? Cast a line and give it a go!

Exploring the Flora and Fauna at the Naturalist Center

Set within The Ford’s Oyster House, the Naturalist Center is a gathering place for all ages. Children love engaging up close with wildlife here, where they can partake in Naturalist Center excursions and day camps. A hub for learning and discovery, the center is the home base for The Ford’s on-site staff naturalist. From bird counts to gator-tagging, shelling trips and more, the activities are endlessly educational and fun for the families of our private community.

Relaxing at The Main House

All year long, members of The Ford come together to mix and mingle at the Main House, boasting over 6,000 square feet. Spend just a day at The Ford, and you’ll see our members stopping in, grabbing a cookie or reading a book at the Main House. Neighbors and their children mingle together in the ample shade of the patio or bask in the gentle sunlight by the pool. A rose garden presents a romantic setting for a quiet stroll observing nature’s harmony. Four large Grecian columns welcome lovers of Southern architecture, a defining characteristic of our community.

Golfing with the Kids at Our Private Course

A landmark of the coastal Lowcountry, our private, Pete Dye-designed golf course has no tee times, making it easy to play an unhurried game any time of year. Parents and grandparents enjoy teaching their children and grandchildren the best practices of the game on The Ford’s course, an ideal setting for new golfers. Outlined by freshwater lakes, lush meadows and scenic coastline, our championship golf course provides an exciting round of play in every season.

Exploring the Land on Foot and by Bike

For those who enjoy activities on foot, The Ford offers members an abundance of hiking trails for an idyllic experience in nature. Discover Lake Clara by taking a walk around the entire shoreline or try the McAllister Trail and scenic Sterling Creek Dike Trail. You’ll also see many members, young and old alike, riding bikes through cycling paths. Children have the freedom to explore on their own within the safety of our one-of-a-kind private community.

Prefer an adventure by horseback? Head to our Equestrian Center, a full-service boarding facility, and then saddle up and ride along one of our on-property trails. If a fitness class is more your taste for the day, explore The Ford’s Sports Barn, where over 80+ classes are held every month.

Now is the time to experience The Ford in person. Schedule your visit today and discover why families from around the world are choosing to make our unique community in the Georgia Lowcountry their home.
