As the azaleas bloom and coastal breezes warm, a renewed energy graces our storied landscape. The spring golf season at The Ford Field & River Club is officially underway—bringing with it exciting news and can’t-miss events for our members.
The season began with a truly special moment—professional golfer Tim O’Neal was welcomed as an Honorary Member of The Ford following an unforgettable day on our award-winning Pete Dye course with the PGA Tour. Having competed on both the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions, Tim shared his inspiring journey in an exclusive interview that will be featured in the upcoming documentary Too Good to Quit.
With this incredible story setting the tone, we anticipate an exceptional season ahead. Below, you’ll find a lineup of can’t-miss tournaments and events designed just for our members.
Club Championship
Thursday, March 20 – Saturday, March 22
The annual Club Championship invites members of all skill levels to compete in a single-elimination match-play tournament. Our overall champion will be crowned from the Golf Tees in a gross competition match-play format, while additional flights will be determined by handicap. The Ladies Club Champion will be decided in a two-day stroke play competition.
Couples Nine & Dine
Thursday, April 24
One of our most popular events, Nine & Dine, returns this spring! This mixed four-person team, 9-hole scramble features a shotgun start and a relaxed format designed for all skill levels. Pros will be on the course assisting groups, with on-course contests adding to the fun. After the round, members are invited to the Clubhouse for dinner and awards.
The Fordson Invitational – Men’s Member-Guest
Thursday, April 3 – Saturday, April 5
The Fordson Invitational stands as our men’s premier event of the season. The format features 9-hole match round-robin competition within flights, culminating in Saturday afternoon’s exciting shootout among flight winners. The celebration continues with our signature Oyster Roast at the historic Oyster House, where generations of members have gathered since the days of Clara and Henry Ford.
Spring Fling
Sunday, April 6
Lady Golfers at The Ford are invited to enjoy 9 holes of spirited play followed by cocktails and light fare in the stately Clubhouse Bar. This scramble format event embodies the gracious hospitality and sporting tradition that define The Ford.
Couples Championship
Sunday, April 27
This 18-hole, Best Ball format tournament offers members the opportunity to be crowned our Couples Champion. After play concludes on our breathtaking Pete Dye course—what he proudly called his “Finest Southern Links”—Net and Gross prizes will be awarded in the Clubhouse bar as we celebrate together as a community.
