Meet Tin Lizzie,
The Ford’s New Mobile Kitchen

Published on

The newest addition to The Ford Field & River Club’s culinary landscape pays homage to our storied past while serving up delectable fare for our community.

A Nod to the Original Tin Lizzie

When Henry Ford’s groundbreaking Model T rolled off the assembly line in 1908, it forever changed the way Americans moved. Affectionately dubbed “Tin Lizzie,” this automobile revolution represented Ford’s vision of making cars accessible to everyday people. The nickname combined “Tin,” referring to the car’s lightweight metal construction, with “Lizzie,” a common slang term for horses—the very mode of transportation the Model T was replacing.

Over a century later, that spirit of innovation lives on at The Ford Field & River Club with our newly acquired 32-foot custom-wrapped mobile kitchen, proudly carrying the same beloved moniker. Just as Henry Ford’s Tin Lizzie democratized transportation, our culinary Tin Lizzie brings extraordinary dining experiences to every corner of our community for members to enjoy.

Culinary Horsepower

While the original Tin Lizzie boasted 20 horsepower, our mobile kitchen packs considerably more culinary firepower. Tin Lizzie made its official debut at our Homecoming Gala, where our culinary team successfully produced all the food necessary to execute Ford’s marquee annual member event. According to Executive Chef Luis Young, this state-of-the-art facility actually surpasses both our current Clubhouse restaurant and Lake Dye Grill in cooking capacity.

A Roving Culinary Experience

You’ll likely spot Tin Lizzie parked just behind the rose garden wall at The Main House, where it’ll supplement everyday dining. But it won’t be stationary for long.

The beauty of Tin Lizzie lies in its mobility. This roving culinary hub will also serve as the centerpiece for pop-up dining experiences throughout the property, with pop-up service at Lake Dye, the Marina, the Oyster House and beyond. Think Taco Tuesdays, Fish Fry Fridays, burgers and brats by the water—all freshly prepared and thoughtfully executed by Chef Luis and his team.

Tin Lizzie will also play a role in community outreach, helping The Ford extend hospitality beyond the gates to local charitable events and regional real estate showcases in Richmond Hill and Savannah.

Full Speed Ahead

Tin Lizzie represents more than just an additional dining option—it’s an integral part of The Ford’s $24.5 million amenity upgrade initiative. This mobile solution allows our community to maintain exceptional culinary experiences even during planned renovations, starting with the Sports Barn.

The flexibility and capabilities of Tin Lizzie embody the innovative spirit of Henry Ford himself, finding practical solutions while maintaining the highest standards. Just as the original Tin Lizzie transformed American life in the early 20th century, our mobile kitchen represents the next chapter in The Ford’s commitment to providing extraordinary experiences for our members.
