The Ford’s Pete Dye Championship Golf Course
Plays Host to the 72nd Georgia Open

Published on

The Ford Field & River Club played host to the 72nd Golf Pro Payments Georgia Open this past weekend, August 3-6, making this the sixth time the storied tournament has graced the fairways of our Pete Dye Championship Golf Course.

Organized by the Georgia PGA, the four-day event showcased 144 professionals and promising amateurs, set against the picturesque backdrop of our Lowcountry coastal setting. This championship holds a unique distinction as the sole 72-hole, four-day event among all Georgia PGA events, punctuated by a captivating cut after the initial 36 holes of competition.

As the fog cleared after a brief delay on Friday morning, the stage was set for a fun, competitive weekend. Mini-tour professional Kam Williams overtook third-round leader Greg Edwards with well-timed birdies. The competition narrowed to Williams and Edwards on Sunday during the final round, with Williams securing a two-shot victory, thanks to a stellar finish on the last two holes. In front of a supportive crowd, Williams clinched the championship with a score of 17-under par 271, securing the $9,000 prize for first place.

“The Ford has a special place in my heart since I got to play there for the first time years ago in the Georgia Open,” shared Williams. “I always tell people how perfect The Ford’s course is with its impeccably maintained greens and inviting yet challenging fairways. Over the four years I’ve competed, I’ve only had great experiences there, and the staff and members are always so welcoming. I want to say thank you again to everyone who supported us this week and for inviting us to your special community.”

Aidan Kramer claimed the low amateur title, finishing in third place at 10-under par 278, followed by Brett Barron and Harry Jones at 9-under par 279.

The Ford’s celebrated course, hailed by Pete Dye as one of his finest Southern designs, combines parkland-style and links-style elements. Meticulously crafted, it offers a rewarding golf experience, showcasing Lowcountry beauty with bunkers, greens and hazards that challenge all skill levels.

The 72nd Golf Pro Payments Georgia Open came to a triumphant close, leaving behind a legacy of competitive spirit, camaraderie and unforgettable moments on the fairways of The Ford.
